History
The Inukshuk Foundation for Global Education was founded in 1997 with a federally chartered mandate. Under its original leadership, the Foundation was created in response to the cracks in the education systems that leave at risk children so vulnerable. In particular, the Foundation recognized that children from First Nations, high-poverty neighbourhoods and underprivileged areas lacked the programs and facilities to help keep them on the right track. Wherever there has been a need to advance education, we've been there – whether it was a new sports facility, community centre, alternative academic programs, sponsoring gifted at risk children or working with communities to help make a difference. Well over 10 years later, our mission remains unchanged - but the means to achieve it has transformed radically. Since January 2009, Inukshuk's new board of directors has been working to bring the Foundation's original mission - promoting education for underprivileged and marginalized youth - into the 21st century.
Re-instating Inukshuk's status as a charitable foundation in June 2009 was the first, developed a technology to support the Inukshuk offerings and launching the website is a small milestones. By bringing the power of web-based social networking together with our mission to advance education across Canada, we've now made it easier for caring citizens across the country to not just get involved, but to help us identify the best ways to tackle each community's challenges. By having a network of people that can identify areas where we can improve, we can continually become more effective. Together we know we can make this a reality.
